IPhone Minecraft Client Posted, Pulled

If you keep an watch on the App Store (or have a quick RSS feed following it), you might have seen an app dubbed Minecrafted there on a Monday morning. It's a Minecraft client for iOS which is a version of the hugely popular indie game that can be run on an iPhone, and connect up to real Minecraft servers. You should not hurry to download it. The application has been removed from the App Store, and you'll get an error message if you attempt to locate it on the US store.

What's the story? TUAW reached out to the app's creator, Trevor Wilkin, and Wilkin explained to us that his original idea was to create the client, submit it to Apple, and then get official approval from the creators of Minecraft before putting it online. Apple removed it from the market right away, however it was a complete disaster, and Wilkin says he "pretty was a bit shocked and had to get it removed as fast as I could." He doesn't know whether the app is genuine or not, as it's entirely original according to the description, but it's likely that he reverse engineered some of the elements, since it's apparently compatible with the current servers and versions of the game.

To us, Wilkin sounds innocent enough. Wilkin says he doesn't want to hurt the brand but just wanted to provide a useful tool. I'm still hoping to work out an official solution that doesn't put a foot on anyone's feet." We're sure of it -The possibility of Minecraft officially running on iOS would be a huge benefit for both iPhone owners as well as those who love the immensely popular game.
